Matt Johnson

Matthew W. Johnson, Ph.D., is Professor at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. Since 2004, Dr. Johnson has played a role in the revival of psychedelic research, publishing on psychedelics in relation to mystical experience, personality change, risks/safety, ethics, and treatment of tobacco addiction, cancer distress, and depression. In 2021 he received, as principal investigator, the first grant in roughly 50 years from the US government to administer a classic psychedelic as a treatment. He is also known for expertise in behavioral economics, addiction, sexual risk behavior, and research with many drugs. He has been interviewed by the Lex Fridman Podcast, Huberman Lab Podcast, 60 Minutes, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, CNN, NPR, Fox News, BBC, and Big Think.
