Featuring Dr. Bia Labate, Sarah Fernandez, Joseph Mays.
This fireside chat provides an overview of the Chacruna Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in California with ties to Brazil and Mexico that provides public education and facilitates cultural understanding about psychedelic plant medicines by propagating academic knowledge in accessible formats. Fireside chat will invite the public to learn about Chacruna’s main programs in education, indigenous reciprocity, protection of sacred plants and traditions, and psychedelic justice. Chacruna aims to raise awareness about globalization’s effect on sacred plants and traditions, fostering cultural understanding and legitimacy while engaging in advocacy. The presentation will briefly cover Chacruna’s work on guides for ayahuasca community sexual abuse awareness and best practices for churches, as well as the incubation of Sacred Plant Alliance. Overall, it hopes to help the public understand how Chacruna creates space for cultural and political reflections in psychedelic science, and asks them to join this important mission of curating difficult conversations as psychedelics go mainstream.
