Piyanko Piyanko is a member of the Asheninka tribe, living deep in the Brazilian Amazon. He is the grandson of Asheninka Chief Antonio and the nephew of spiritual leader Benki Piyako. He will be sharing songs of the rainforest, ancient prayers that are chanted during ayahuasca ceremony that invoke the spirits to accompany the ritual. Additionally he will be playing guitar, which is not traditional to the his people. However in recent times they have adapted many of their sacred chants to guitar rhythms, bringing joy and levity into the space. They have adapted this as a way to demonstrate that not everything brought by colonialism was bad, and to show forgiveness for the tragedies experienced during this difficult period.
