Dr. Robin Carhart-Harris, PhD

Ralph Metzner Distinguished Professor of Neurology & Psychiatry, Director Psychedelics Division, Neuroscape

Robin Carhart-Harris moved to Imperial College London in 2008, with a PhD in Psychopharmacology; there, he designed human brain imaging studies with LSD, psilocybin, MDMA and DMT, a clinical trial of psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression, a double-blind randomized controlled trial comparing psilocybin with the SSRI, escitalopram, for depression, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, a multimodal imaging study in first time users of psilocybin, and two new psilocybin therapy trials for anorexia and separately, chronic pain. Robin has published over 140 scientific papers. He founded the Centre for Psychedelic Research at Imperial College London in April 2019, the first of its kind. Robin was named in a Times’ list of top 31 medical scientists, TIME magazine’s ‘100 Next’, a list of 100 rising stars shaping the future, and he won the 2021 Microdose Award for the top psychedelic researcher. In July 2021, Robin moved to University of California, San Francisco, becoming the Ralph Metzner Distinguished Professor in Neurology and Psychiatry.

This talk will walk the audience through an understanding of how psychedelics work on human brain function to account for their fantastic psychological effects. An argument is developed that via the nature of their action on the mind and brain, psychedelics are uniquely powerful tools for informing on the nature of the mind and the brain, including what happens to them when an individual falls into mental illness. Knowing the nature of the problem helps us find effective solutions; thus, a model is presented of how psychedelic therapy can target the core of mental illness to treat it.

We've rented a field about a 5-minute walk from the hotel from 11am-5pm on Sunday (the day after the conference) for people to come relax, get some exercise, and enjoy some play time before heading back to reality.

Games to Support Nonprofits

This year, we’ll be adding The Playground, an area with a number of games for people to play. Each time someone wins a game, they will be able to donate $1 to one of five pre-selected nonprofits. At the end of the conference, Wonderland will be donating lump sums to the five organizations based on the selections of attendees.

The Third Annual Wonderland Awards
