Marcus and Amber Capone are the founders of the U.S.-based nonprofit organization, Veterans Exploring Treatment Solutions (VETS), a pioneering 501(c)(3) organization that provides resources, research, and advocacy for U.S. Special Operations veterans seeking psychedelic-assisted therapies. After 13 years and numerous combat deployments as a Navy SEAL, Marcus’ post-military transition challenges became seemingly insurmountable. After all other avenues of healing failed, Amber was able to arrange for Marcus to leave the U.S. in 2017 to pursue psychedelic therapy, ibogaine, an intervention the couple attributes to saving his life, as well as their family. He found the astounding success too incredible not to share with other veterans, which prompted the trailblazing launch of VETS. Since its inception, VETS has maintained a special emphasis on ibogaine and its remarkable potential for neuroregenerative effects in combating blast injury and mild traumatic brain injury, the “signature injury” of the post-9/11 conflicts overseas.  The VETS mission also includes grant funding and advocacy for five other psychedelic compounds: 5-MeO-DMT, psilocybin, MDMA, ketamine, and ayahuasca. As a global leader in the psychedelic space, VETS has raised over $8 million to provide integration support and therapeutic access abroad to hundreds of veterans, spouses, and Gold Star spouses, while also spearheading research and policy change at the state and federal levels in the U.S. VETS has provided key testimony in a number of states, with the most significant legislative victory being the passage of HB 1802 in Texas. Marcus and Amber are frequent guest speakers and advocates of psychedelic therapies for veterans and non-veterans alike, and believe that psychedelic therapies are the future of mental healthcare. They are committed to fighting for veterans and their families just as hard as they’ve fought for their own, with an ultimate goal of making these therapies available within the borders of the United States for all who need them.
